ATLANTA - The Atlanta International Area Rug Market opens today at AmericasMart, which - despite a snowstorm earlier this week and continuing sub-freezing temperatures here - opened for business yesterday as scheduled for the Atlanta International Gift & Home Furnishings Market.

Besides seeing the newest rug designs for 2011, attendees will also be able to participate in a number of events and giveaways. After a five-year absence, The Rug Market America returns to AmericasMart with a showroom in the HOME section on the 12th floor, and officially opened it with a ribbon cutting this morning. In addition, the company will serve refreshments all day as well as hold a $500 drawing toward an at-show order to celebrate the event.

At Loloi Rugs, every customer who writes a qualifying order during the market will receive an iPad or MacBook Air, depending on the size of the order.

Capel Rugs will give away Amazon Kindle e-readers to customers who visit the company's showroom, located in showroom 6-F-2. One winner will be drawn daily at 4 p.m. during the first three days of market.

Also debuting at the show is Safavieh's new licensed collection with Ralph Lauren, which will have a cocktail reception and ribbon-cutting ceremony at 5 p.m. today, Jan. 13, in showroom #5-A-2.

Later today, beginning at 6 p.m., Momeni will host a market kick-off party in its showroom, #4-B-4. Hors d'oeuvres and cocktails will be served.

On Friday, Jan. 14, Surya launches a year-long celebration of its 35th anniversary with a party in the Grand Ballroom at the Ritz-Carlton. Held from 7 to 10 p.m., there will be cocktails, dinner and live music.

And Kaleen will give one Kaleen buyer or dealer a red Mini Cooper convertible at a drawing on Saturday, Jan. 15, at 4 p.m., in its showroom #3-C-9.

Then the annual America's Magnificent Carpets Awards will take place at 6 p.m. Saturday, at the Atlanta Marriott Marquis.
