Safavieh Debuts First Custom Program
May 3, 2013,
Designers now have the opportunity to customize designs from Safavieh's Tibetan and Nepalese Safavieh Couture rugs with the launch of the company's new custom rug program last month at High Point Market. Safavieh Couture includes its running line collections from designers Thomas O'Brien, David Easton, Jamie Drake, Thom Filicia and, within her Nepalese carpet designs, Martha Stewart.
The program targets interior designers so they can offer their clients something other than what's in stores, the company said, though if a store has an in-house design department, they can offer the program as well. Nepalese carpets are the overwhelming weave of choice by interior designers for multi-colored patterned rugs, the company added, while Tibetan weaves are usually chosen for casual textural patterns. High-mountain Himalayan wool is used in these designs either alone or blended with silk or viscose.
The program will be under the sales management of John Vlahopoulos, who specialized in designer rugs prior to joining Safavieh in 2011 as senior sales executive. A brochure details the program.
The program's pom box has 200 colors, but Safavieh is unlimited in its color matching capability. The lead time for custom rendering is three to four days; for a custom strike-off sample three to four weeks and for the finished rug, four to five months.
The new program is "due to popular demand from our design customers," said Arash Yaraghi, president, as well as "to satisfy the most discriminating taste. In today's business environment communication with all partners is instant. We can develop designs and make strike-off samples using video conferencing, therefore enhancing speed."
The program also offers designers custom sizes on any of its current programmed handknotted wool Oriental rug collections.
