High Point Is Underway

HIGH POINT, N.C.-The High Point Market, now in its third day, has been notable for vendors expanding into new categories, along with thousands of trend-setting introductions.

Uttermost, known for its accessories and furniture, expanded into handmade rugs with an initial launch of 91 designs from India ... The Powell Company, known for furniture and home decor, added rugs to its offerings with the introduction of its Bombay Company-branded items  ...  AICO entered the youth market with a bedroom collection targeting pre-teens, teens and young adults. The furniture group will be part of the company's Hollywood Swank collection, with case pieces scaled down from the original version.

ELK Group International is showing in its new showroom at C402 of the Commerce Wing of International Home Furnishings Center.  More than three times the size of its previous location, the new showroom is more than 15,000 square-feet large, and will focus on the Sterling and Dimond divisions as well as its HGTV Home, Bailey Street, Biltmore and Trump brands ... Protect-A-Bed has allied with Therapedic International in a joint showroom for the market. The two companies are co-located in a 5,000-square-foot space in room M-607 of IHFC, which Therapedic first occupied for the April High Point Market ... Bassett Furniture is introducing new additions to its HGTV Collection.

Today is packed with events. From 9 a.m.-1 p.m. designer Genevieve Gorder will be in the Capel showroom, showing attendees her line with the company ... From 2:30-3:30, Safavieh will host a meet and greet with celebrity designer Thom Filicia ... At 3, Surya hosts designer Mike Farrell for a meet and greet with attendees. ... Jaipur Rugs will host a black-and-white cocktail party from 4-6 ...  Nourison will host a reception at 4-6 for designer Barclay Butera, who will debut his new products with the company ... Linon will host a Greek-themed party, with Greek food, cheeses and wine, as well as international music, dancing and plate breaking from 5-10 ... Accessories Resource Team will premiere Local ART, a fundraiser offering local food, wine and beer at the event space between Showplace and IHFC. Tickets cost $10 per person.
