Case Goods: Aspenhome
Aspenhome's Desk Chest, part of the Reede's Landing Collection, is the perfect balance between traditional and technology-driven lifestyles. The piece works as a TV cabinet, drawer chest and a writing desk, plus it includes a charging area for personal electronics. The upper storage area converts from TV space to shelves for clothing.
Described as a hybrid of an 18th century American linen press and an English library wall case with a pullout writing desk, the piece is the perfect answer to replace a larger, obsolete bedroom TV armoire.
"The retailers that have seen the Desk Chest believe it will become a staple for bedrooms," said Bryan Edwards, aspenhome's vice president of sales. aspenhome.net
Occasional Furniture: Broyhill
Ottomans were back in a big way at the most recent High Point Market, and Broyhill's "French-poster" style ottomans were the most eye-catching of the bunch. They're large--but not too big--and feature digital prints of antique posters. Pictured: Lady Zaza, a 1920s themed poster. Other prints are available. They'll retail for approximately $399. broyhillfurniture.com
Furniture Collection: Lexington
Inspired by the black sand beaches of Polynesia, the designs in Royal Kahala--the latest introduction from Tommy Bahama Home--are both eclectic and sophisticated.
The design theme of the collection reflects a Pan-Asian sensibility, it also receives more than a touch of elegance with influences from Colonial, Safari and British Campaign. Materials include leather-wrapped split rattan, tortoise shell, split bamboo, mother of pearl, sugar cane and nail-trimmed leather. Upholstery offerings include Colonial blue and white patterns, and tropical groupings in jade, magenta and white.
"This collection represents the most refined and elegant lifestyle within the Tommy Bahama Home portfolio, and the opportunity to showcase the design and detail for exceptional individual pieces," said Phil Haney, chief executive officer of Lexington Home Brands. lexington.com
Motion Furniture: Berkline
With dynamic stereo speakers and a deep-bass subwoofer integrated into it, Berkline's Concert Series Chair provides concert quality sound and wireless connectivity. Controlled with a remote in the arm of the chair that doesn't require batteries, the wireless interface allows the user to connect with any entertainment system and can be operated up to 75 feet away from the source. The chair can be set to vibrate in sync with movies, music or games--and can also provide a massage.
The Concert Series Chair is available as a rocker recliner or a wallaway recliner. berkline.com
Outdoor Collection: Whitecraft
Inspired by the Winter Garden of the Biltmore House--the largest privately owned residence in the United States, located in Asheville, N.C.--Biltmore's South Terrace is crafted with resin molded over an aluminum frame. It looks exactly like bamboo, but will last much, much longer. The upholstery is floral paisley in varying shades of chocolates and tans on a beige background. Bring on the spring. whitecraftinc.net
Lighting Fixtures: Robert Abbey
Lighting both ends of the stick works wonderfully in the new Jonathan Adler sconce design for Robert Abbey. An addition to Adler's Meurice collection, which launched four years ago, the sconce gives off plenty of light in a simple, elegant look.
"The design was inspired by the 30-light chandelier from this original collection, which continues to be one of the best sellers in that collection," said Darlene Salatto Rose, design director, Robert Abbey. "They were nicely received by our customers in High Point and we expect them to gain momentum."
The sconce is available in an antique brass, deep patina bronze, or, here, polished nickel finish. robertabbey.com
Table Lamps: Pacific Coast Lighting
For a French feel, the new Grande Maison lamps in Pacific Coast Lighting's Kathy Ireland line bring a simple, wood look to any interior. For texture, the composite material is painted, decorated and stained for a multi-layered finish.
"As styles trickle down from high-end designers to the mass market, the French antique look was occasionally seen at market at high-end prices last winter," said Katja Hockenberg, vice president of design. "As the popularity of this look increased in home furnishings, the demand was there for accompanying accessories, and Pacific Coast Lighting was able to bring this look at a much lower cost to accommodate the average retail furniture store."
There are currently six lamps in the line, with floor lamps, chandeliers and a bedroom-size lamp to come. pacificcoastlighting.com
Wall Decor: Kevin O'Brien
For his New York at Night wall decor piece, designer Kevin O'Brien indulged in the typical apartment-with-outdoor-space fantasy that has captured many a city dweller and visitor. "After trade shows in New York I often go sit in Bryant Park and gaze at the amazing buildings surrounding it," he said. "They are all office buildings but I was imagining myself living on the top of one."
The piece is part of his newest wall decor collection, and the first time he focused on the city as a subject. Previously, his wall decor consisted only of landscapes. The company plans to expand the city wall decor collection to focus on Paris and Venice as well.
For the New York art series, the artwork is digitally printed onto linen, and then applied to a piece of dibond metal. New York at Night measures 24 inches square, while the other two pieces, which depict the city's famous bridges, are 36 inches square. kevinobrienstudio.com
Home Decor: Arteriors
Getting hammered suits these Lenore Hammered Metal Containers just fine, as it adds surface interest to their other qualities of symmetry and style. The larger Lenore container is 8.5 inches high and 10 inches in diameter, while the smaller version is 6.5 inches high, eight inches in diameter. Both are constructed of polished nickel. "The product development team recognized a void in the market place for a modern cachepot so we took one of our more popular materials--hammered polished nickel--and applied it to a perfectly sized contemporary container for orchids/plants," said Mark Moussa, founder. arteriors.com
