Lowdown on High Point



With debuts of items such as the I Can See Clearly Now endtable and the Snow White and the 7 Drawers jewelry chest, Caracole hosted  some of the most-discussed introductions at the market. Part of the Schnadig portfolio, Caracole unveiled 71 case goods and 21 upholstery items for the bedroom, dining room and living room for the largest amount of High Point introductions since the brand's launch in 2009.

"We want to bring the fun back to furniture," said Maura Riley, marketing director, Schnadig. "We pride ourselves on our finishes, and we love to mix elements and do the unexpected." The High Point introductions were inspired by international travel, trendy boutique hotels and European trade shows like Maison et Objet. Clean lined silhouettes and dramatic details mixed with unique materials such as white bone, brushed silver, matte black metals and crystal clear Lucite. Rug company Horizon Home Imports debuted a new category at market: decorative accents. Under the brand name Fashion & You, the new line consists of such products as candle holders, bowls, lanterns (shown) and decorative pieces like miniature airplanes and cannons, all made of iron, steel and brass. The lanterns and trays were the most well received items in the new 100-SKU line so far, said Zubair Alam, vice president. Furniture such as tables will be added in the future.

"We have been in this business for the last three generations," said Alam, but recently decided to import this line into the U.S. directly. The line is made in north India. "Our decorative and accents line will be very limited and selective," he added. "We will bring the best in the market because we have the experience." horizonhomeimport.com



Powell's initial introductions for its recently acquired Bombay Heritage license were some of the most highly anticipated in High Point.

The company came to market with over 100 designs of furniture and rugs reflecting the exotic and classic styles for which the brand is known. New Bombay items such as consoles, tables, ottomans and jewelry armoires come in a variety of finishes. A selection of desks, including the Mallory Desk (shown), is Powell's entry into the office furniture category.

"Bombay is a great fit for us," said John Conrad, Powell's senior vice president, merchandising. "It's really perfect for Powell. It fits right in our wheel house."

Conrad and his team reviewed more than 3,000 items from Bombay's former offerings, whittling them down to the High Point introductions.

Conrad said Powell will roll out a line of Bombay items for kids in Las Vegas in January. The company showed a Bombay-branded set of bunk beds in High Point.  powellcompany.com


AP Industries

AP Industries unveiled the Sekoya Collection, the Quebec-based company's first collection using 100-percent reclaimed facades. The reclaimed material is solid Vermont Birch that is gathered within the company's existing production cycle.

The contemporary collection comes in two finishes--espresso with natural and espresso with slate. The focal point of the collection is an eye-catching band of birch on the headboard and drawers. Ken Loh II, the vice president of sales for AP Industries, said the process of applying the birch is very labor intensive. "Each piece of material is applied by hand, taking an average of 20 minutes per drawer," Loh said. The birch varies in depth, color, cut marking and texture to give each case good its own unique character. AP Industries announced at the show that its residential products have received Greenguard certification, making it the first full-line North American manufacturer to have all its items meet the group's chemical emissions standards. apindustries.com
