NEW YORK-Sealy, Furniture First and Rowe Furniture will be among the supporters of the Northeast Cruise for Hope, which will be presented by City of Hope, the research, treatment and education center for cancer and other life-threatening diseases. The cruise will honor Simon Kaplan, president of Crest Furniture.

The cruise, which is scheduled for Sept. 10, will depart from Shipyard Marina in Hoboken, N.J., and will provide views of Manhattan, Ellis Island, the Statue of Liberty, Governor's Island, South Street Seaport and the Brooklyn Bridge. It will also incorporate a memorial to 9/11, the 10th anniversary of which will be the following day.

In 1971, Kaplan founded Crest Furniture Inc., dba Value City Furniture, and expanded it from a single retail store to seven retail locations and four Ashley Home Stores. Kaplan is also president of Furniture Marketing Group (FMG), the volume furniture-buying cooperative. In 2000, Kaplan participated in an initiative through FMG to raise more than $80,000 to support High Point University.

Proceeds from the Cruise for Hope will support research and treatment programs at City of Hope. To register for the cruise or to inquire about sponsorship, contact Beth Ida Stern, City of Hope's senior director of development, at 213-241-7192.
