Universal Furniture to Continue Paula Deen Collections
July 25, 2013,
HIGH POINT, N.C.-Universal Furniture has sent a letter to retailers stating that the company will "move forward with the Paula Deen brand and will continue to market her collections as the Paula Deen Home Collection."
The company cited several factors that contributed to its decision: "Our belief that Paula is not the person portrayed by the media, our confidence that the brand will continue to have significant retail value, and most importantly the feedback that we have received from you, our customer."
Universal said in the letter that it had heard from numerous retailers, with some urging the company to "hang in there." Other retailers, Universal said, have removed Paula Deen banners, tent cards and hang tags from their floor displays, "effectively de-branding the line."
