Gift Fair Recognizes Exemplary "Green" Products

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y.-At its winter edition next month, the New York International Gift Fair will hold two initiatives to recognize exemplary eco-friendly and socially responsible products.

Seven products will be designated as achieving NYIGF's highest "Degrees of SustainAbility" status, and 30 finalists will be announced as eligible for online balloting in the semi-annual Eco Choice Awards. The seven products are Anjolie Ayurveda's 100 percent organic Spa Soaps, Equilibrium's handmade Rectangle Free Form Mirror framed in recycled timber, Fab Habitat's recycled plastic baskets made in India, Marina Paper's Tsatsalung pouch made in Nepal with Daphne paper and giant nettle fibers, Potting Shed Creations' Dawn Redwood Tree-to-Bee growing kit, Seawicks Candle's 100 percent soy candles in a reusable drinking glass and Sobremesa by Greenheart's utensils and cutting boards handmade from certified, nonfruiting coffee trees.

At the winter Gift Fair, three products will be chosen as winners of the Eco Choice Awards. Through Jan. 4, buyers and suppliers can vote for their favorites in the categories of "most innovative," "most sensitive use of materials" and "most sellable," and the finalists' gallery is available online at

Christian Falkenberg, the Gift Fair's director and vice president of show owner and manager GLM, said, "Both of these initiatives are extensions of NYIGF's SustainAbility: design for a better world project, which serves to promote and build awareness of sustainable, earth-friendly gift, home and lifestyle resources."
