Gift Fair Unveils Online Navigation Tools

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y.-New online tools have been introduced by the New York International Gift Fair to help attendees navigate the trade show, scheduled for Aug. 14 to Aug. 19.

Beginning today, the Gift Fair Web site has a new search engine,, that allows visitors to locate current vendors, and find and sort resources by keyword, company name, Gift Fair division, category and venue. Developed in consultation with Whereoware, a Web site-development firm, enables searches to be filtered, saved and printed along with an accompanying floor plan. This tool is fully integrated with the Gift Fair's Online Catalog Gallery, which uses Whereoware's digital catalog tools.

Beginning Aug. 1, the Gift Fair will have a new mobile application that will allow users to access the exhibitor search function on a handheld device. This application will be integrated with all major smart-phone platforms, including iPhone, Blackberry and Android. Also, the Web site will be adapted for easier mobile access before, during and after the market.

The Gift Fair will also place an Information Station in the Crystal Palace lobby of the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center, one of the show's locations along with Passenger Ship Terminal Piers 92 and 94. The Information Station will outline changes to the show and offer navigation tips. Four self-search kiosks on this site will provide access to the exhibitor search function and the ability to purchase seminar and event tickets. The Gift Fair will also station a team of greeters with iPads at the satellite kiosks at the entrances to the show floor at both the Javits Center and the Piers.

According to a statement from GLM, owner and manager of the Gift Fair, the new tools and changes offer "new and improved way-finding methods" to help show attendees to navigate the show-floor changes resulting from the introduction of new product divisions, reorganization of existing divisions and construction within the Javits Center.

Among the changes featured at the August Gift Fair are the debut of Baby & Child, a new division of juvenile product suppliers; the reorganization of Handmade Designer Marker and Handmade Global Design; and the introduction of New York's Newest, a division of first-time Gift Fair participants.
