Bissell Pet Foundation 2013 Awards Top $635,000

BissellGRAND RAPIDS, Mich.-This year, the Bissell Pet Foundation contributed more than $635,000 to 90 animal welfare organizations across the United States.

The foundation, which is supported in part by Bissell Homecare Inc., was begun in December 2011. Since its inception, it has provided more than $1.1 million in support to animal shelter and rescue organizations in 45 states and the District of Columbia.

Spay and neuter programs have received the largest amount of funding, more than $450,000. More than 72 percent of these funds have helped provide access to sterilization services for the public, the foundation said in a statement. Award decisions are made by the foundation's Grant Review Committee, which consists of individuals who have dedicated years to animal welfare, the foundation said.

"With literally millions of homeless pets euthanized every year in the U.S., we focus on funding programs that will do the most to change this heartbreaking outcome," said Cathy Bissell, founder of the organization.
