Fiskars to Ring Nasdaq Closing Bell Friday

Fiskar’s Waterford brand will celebrate New Year’s Eve with its “Gift of Kindness” theme

Fiskars logoHELSINKI, FinlandFiskars Corp., will celebrate the New Year and Finland’s 100th anniversary by ringing the closing bell at Nasdaq MarketSite in Times Square on Dec. 30, the last trading day of the year.

Additionally, Fiskars will celebrate the New Year’s Eve ball drop in Times Square with Waterford, one of the key brands in Fiskars’ portfolio. Waterford has been a part of the New Year’s Eve celebration in Times Square since 1999. The Waterford Times Square New Year’s Eve Ball, which is dropped at midnight, is made up of 2,688 Waterford Crystal triangles. This year, 288 of the crystal triangles introduce a new pattern, “Gift of Kindness,” to celebrate acts of kindness and a sense of unity. This is the fourth gift in the 10-year “Greatest Gifts” series that will decorate the Waterford Times Square New Year’s Eve Ball through 2023.

In the spirit of this year’s gift, Waterford is honored to present Global Citizen, an official partner of Times Square New Year’s Eve 2017, with the “Gift of Kindness” award for their remarkable efforts to end extreme poverty by 2030 and promote global change.

“As the oldest company in Finland, established in 1649, Fiskars has transformed fundamentally over the past years and today proudly holds a strong position in the global consumer goods market,” said Kari Kauniskangas, Fiskars’ president and CEO, who will ring the bell alongside members of the company’s leadership team. “The welcoming of 2017 is a proud moment for Fiskars as it marks the centennial of Finland’s independence. Furthermore, our world famous orange-handled scissors will turn 50 years.”
