ROSEMONT, Ill.—The International Housewares Association is adding to its pre-show events at the 2018 International Home + Housewares Show, showcasing hydration-related products at a new Trending Today Preview.

The preview will run concurrently with the IH+HS’s New Exhibitor Preview on the opening day of the show, Saturday, March 10 from 8-10 a.m. in Room S100 in the South Building. About 60 hydration and hydration-related exhibitors will be featured in the Trending Today section. The event is open exclusively to buyers and news media.

Carley Knobloch, a smart home expert, noted the portable beverageware category is becoming more competitive as companies embrace smart home technology, another key trend. For example, she noted some hydration products now allow the consumer to connect the water bottle to a fitness tracker so consumers can monitor their daily water intake.

Hydration, as part of the healthy living movement, has made portable beverageware one of the top-growing categories in terms of housewares sales, according to Joe Derochowski, home industry analyst for The NPD Group. Fueled by the interest in healthy living, portable beverageware was the top-selling category in the first six months this year, Derochowski said in a prepared release.

Many expected 2016 would be a banner year, but the political and economic climate softened consumer confidence. It was also a year consumers spent more lavishly on home remodeling rather than decorating.
