Macy’s to Partner with Apple

NEW YORK—Macy’s plans to add an Apple store to its Herald Square flagship and may add more Starbucks to its locations, according to various published reports.
President and incoming CEO Jeff Gennette told investors last week about plans to open the Apple store in New York and offer the Apple Watch at more than 180 stores in time for Christmas, Fortune reported.
Gennette also said the retailer is looking at ways to add foot traffic to stores, and suggested adding more food options, according to Fortune. He gave Starbucks as an example of an operation that could be expanded. Macy’s currently operates Starbucks in some of its stores.
The department store chain has been struggling; its second quarter net income fell nearly 95 percent, to $11 million. Macy’s announced last month that it plans to close 100 stores but has not provided further details on the closings. Gennette is set to become CEO early next year, succeeding Terry Lundgren.
