STOCKHOLM-Electrolux has appointed Stefano Marzano to the newly created role of chief design officer.

The move puts Marzano in charge of all design at the global housewares and appliances manufacturer, reporting directly to Keith McLoughlin, president and CEO. It also puts in place a formal structure for product development, which the company called its "innovation triangle." This places research and development, marketing and design functions in a synergistic format for the entire creation process, Electrolux said in a statement.

Marzano has come out of retirement to take his new post. In his career, he served as chief design officer for Royal Philips Electronics. He also served on the faculties of Domus Academy and Politecnico di Milano, both in Milan, Italy. He is also the author and editor of several books on design.
