Spectrum Brands' new headquarters
MIDDLETON, Wis.--Spectrum Brands Holdings has moved its world headquarters, several North American divisional operations and technology center to a newly built facility here.
Middleton is a suburb of Madison, Wis., where the headquarters was previously located. Spectrum had announced that it would move to a new headquarters in January 2012. The company had considered relocating its headquarters and North American Remington personal-care operations to Miramar, Fla., the site of its Russell Hobbs home appliances subsidiary, which it acquired in June 2010. It then decided to remain in the Madison area because of "major space efficiencies and other cost savings," according to a Spectrum statement.
Spectrum described its new location as "a more economical and energy-efficient option" than renewing the lease on its previous headquarters. The new building houses the Spectrum Brands Institute of Design & Technology, with state-of-the-art laboratories and equipment, and 20 percent more space than the prior facility. This feature is focused on research, innovation and new product development for the company's global batteries, personal-care and home appliances businesses.

Cautious Optimism, Mixed Results
Many expected 2016 would be a banner year, but the political and economic climate softened consumer confidence. It was also a year consumers spent more lavishly on home remodeling rather than decorating.
