The Big Screen Scene
Attendees and exhibitors who used the hashtag #lightingmkt during January's Dallas International Lighting Market may have had their tweet displayed on the Buzz Board, an LED screen on the fourth floor of the Trade Mart atrium that Dallas Market Center debuted at the show. The screen rotated a number of informative and engaging tweets throughout the show, such as the one displayed.
"The Just Right Home: Buying, Renting, Moving--or Just Dreaming--Find Your Perfect Match" by Katrina Cottages designer Marianne Cusato is written for house-hunters searching for the perfect place to live, but with an insightful approach to what makes us happy home-wise. It weighs proximity versus location; live-in value versus resale value; how to plan for future needs and so forth. It will be released in April by Workman Publishing Group.
There's an App for That
The 2013 ih+hs mobile application for the International Home + Housewares Show is back and better this year, now with a QR code reader for quick scanning, the capability to search brands and licenses, and an export function, so users can export and email the text of the notes they added within the app. The app is downloadable from iTunes and Google Play.
Going Against the Grain
Woodworking trends are the focus of the Museum of Arts and Design's Against the Grain: Wood in Contemporary Art, Craft and Design, opening Mar. 19, 2013. Featuring 90 installations, sculptures, furniture and objects, the exhibit includes Hyperboloid 3, shown here, from artist Bud Latven and which is made of Macassar ebony and Brazilian canary wood.
