Jewelry Looks Translate to Mirror Designs

By Andrea Lillo

A beautiful piece of jewelry is hard to resist, so it's not surprising that jewelry has inspired pieces for the home as well, including several new mirror designs.

"The current use of gleaming metallic and romantic crystal jewelry on the runway is being echoed in the home--particularly in accent pieces, such as mirrors, frames, pillows, portables and all kinds of lighting," said Maria Scutaro, president, Feiss, which has always looked to jewelry as an inspiration. "This all demonstrates our increased confidence in the economy and the optimism it brings--we become more playful and bolder with our own sense of style." Feiss's line includes the company's popular Valentina mirror, bedazzled with crystals.

At Alden Parkes in April, the company debuted two jewelry-inspired styles: the handcarved Necklace mirror, embedded with Swarovski crystal accents, and the Bracelet mirror.

"Jewelry is elegant," said Lynne McArdle, president, Alden Parkes, and translates easily into home decor. "Our customers love it." Available in 28-, 38- and 48-inch sizes diagonally, the Necklace mirror was inspired by a Harry Winston necklace she saw with designer Jon Spurlock and told him it would look "amazing as a mirror." It comes in two finishes, each in three tones and two accent colors. In four finishes, the Bracelet mirror is customizable, available in two mirror sizes and a stainless steel cuff that can link them together, so one or more mirrors can be used.

From Currey & Co., the Betty June collection by Marjorie Skouras was inspired by a 1960s bracelet and earrings that Skouras inherited from her grandmother. For use either indoors or out, the collection is made of cast aluminum with a high-quality powder coating and along with the mirror includes console, cocktail and occasional tables.
