Kingsdown to Close Knoxville Plant

KNOXVILLE, Tenn.-Kingsdown will close its manufacturing facility here, which it had purchased as part of an acquisition several years ago.

A company statement did not give the date for the closing of the plant. Kingsdown said regional production has already been assumed by larger and more efficient facilities in Oklahoma, Florida and Virginia.

Joe Schmoeller, senior vice president of operations, said, "While we recognize and cannot minimize the financial loss to the small number of employees at the plant (it employed 20 people), it no longer made economic sense for us to operate the facility as our production matrix had changed over the years."
