Pacific Coast Feather Opens Mattress-Pad Facility

Pacific Coast FeatherSEATTLE-Pacific Coast Feather is beginning to produce mattress pads at its new plant in Gastonia, N.C., and plans to have the facility at full-scale production by May 1.

The new plant was built to replace a production facility in Wayne, Ind., which had been destroyed by a tornado in October. The company is installing equipment with automation enhancements which will enable it to expand the mattress-pad capacity at the new plant to 30 percent more than the capacity at the Wayne facility. Located on 31 acres, the facility measures 127, 531 square feet.

At next month's New York Home Fashions Market, Pacific Coast Feather is planning to launch nine new concepts in mattress pads. The company markets pads under the Calvin Klein, Spring Air, Sheex and Restful Nights brands, along with a number of house brands and retailer-owned private label brands.

Referring to the facility's production, Joe Crawford, Pacific Coast Feather's president and CEO, said, "We are right on schedule, and we fully intend to deliver pads to the time table we have been promising our customers since the disaster in Wayne."
