Blog: IMC Says Market May Set Attendance Record
LAS VEGAS-International Market Centers said the winter Las Vegas Market, now in its third day, is poised for record-setting attendance.
IMC, the organizers of the show, said this market has ushered in nearly 300 new furniture and home decor brands and 900 new gift lines.
Thom Filicia spoke to attendees about his new lighting collection with Safavieh (left, 1) at the show yesterday. Though he likes contemporary design, "modern lighting can feel very cold," he said, so his new line incorporates organic shapes, materials such as driftwood and details such as silk cords for a warm, earthy feel. The line can both add a hip element to traditional interiors, and a classical one to modern ones, he added. "It can speak both languages," he said.
Designer Mike Farrell came to market both with new designs for his collection with Surya, and to share what inspires him in a special presentation at the Surya showroom yesterday. His new Live Love Coffee line includes seven new handtufted rug designs, including one of tire tracks called Pandemonium (left, 2), as well as decorative pillows. Farrell told attendees that he is inspired by the chaotic, and in his design studio he's worked with a wide range of items, from blood-covered butcher aprons to Civil Rights-era photos to 1,500 NyQuil labels.
Monica Pedersen signed books and took photos with fans at the booth for Softline Home, which unveiled the Make It Beautiful collection of ready-made window treatments, decorative pillows and fabrics. Pedersen also made an appearance at Abbyson Living, which was showing its new collection designed by Pedersen.
Color was on tap at Capel, which added bold, vibrant designs in its value-oriented Panache line. It also showed a new dense, hooked construction in five new patterns in its Williamsburg license (left, 3, Granada pattern).
Saddlemans debuted its first permanent showroom at Las Vegas Market in 1,500 square feet of space in Building C. Known for its cow hide line, made in Brazil of a by-product of the food industry, new items included a lot of metallics, such as Morrissey, a geometric pattern (left, 4, Facets colorway), and Sun Goddess, a chevron pattern.
CMI showcased its new licensed line with Panama Jack, which included wool, wool blend and indoor/outdoor rug designs.
