MINNEAPOLIS-Target has appointed Bob DeRodes executive vice president and chief information officer as it continues its efforts to resolve the breach into millions of its customers' credit-card information, which occurred during the holiday shopping season.

When DeRodes assumes his new post on May 5, he will be responsible for the retailer's technology team and operations, including the efforts to enhance security on its customers' personal data. He will succeed Beth Jacob, who resigned in March, and report to Gregg Steinhafel, chairman, president and CEO.

In announcing DeRodes' appointment, Target also listed new actions it has taken to enhance data security. These include enhancing monitoring and logging, the installation of new point-of-sale systems, the development of point-of-sale management tools and firewall-review and -governance processes, reviewing and limiting vendor access, and enhancing the security of accounts.

DeRodes' background includes serving as senior information technology advisor for the Center for CIO Leadership, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, the U.S. Secretary of Defense and the U.S. Department of Justice. He has also held technology positions with CitiBank, USAA Federal Savings Bank, First Data, Home Depot and Delta Air Lines.
