Dollar General to Enter Three New States
June 9, 2014,
GOODLETTSVILLE, Tenn.-Dollar General will establish its first presence in Maine, Oregon and Rhode Island with store openings within the next year.
The dollar-store retailer will begin construction on stores in Maine and Rhode Island this fall, and will expand into Oregon in early 2015. Once these stores are open, Dollar General will have locations in 43 states across the country. The number of new-store openings was unspecified in a Dollar General statement.
Rick Dreiling, chairman and CEO, said the expansion will mean that Dollar General will be present in all of the northeastern states, and will have a presence in the Pacific Northwest. The openings in Oregon also enlarge the retailer's presence on the West Coast, which was first established with the opening of stores in California in 2012, including the company's 10,000th store which opened in Merced, Calif.
