NEW YORK-Gracious Home has named former Ralph Lauren and Williams-Sonoma executive Ashley Fothergill as its president.

Fothergill is joining the retailer today, and reports to Joel Kier, the company's chairman. He is succeeding Jordan Smilowitz, who left in April to become senior director of purchasing for Lapine, a retail merchandise agency.

Before joining Gracious Home, Fothergill was vice president of Ralph Lauren responsible for its home collection, which included the designer brand's lighting, giftware, textiles, home fragrance, decorative accessories, stationery, paint and window hardware products. Prior to his Ralph Lauren career, he served as director of product development at Williams-Sonoma, director of product development at British retailer Sainsbury and an executive in the Macy's merchandising group.
