Havertys Sales Gain in Q2

HavertysATLANTA-Havertys posted a second-quarter increase of 2.4 percent in net sales, to $175.1 million, according to a preliminary statement on the quarter, which ended on June 30.

The sales pickup included a 3.2 percent rise in same-store sales. Clarence Smith, Havertys' chairman, president and CEO, said the retailer experienced growth in sales of upholstery, mattresses and accessories.

Smith added that supplier order fulfillment for wood products presented a challenge to Havertys' casegoods sales. He also said recent improvement, with the exception of a major, unnamed Chinese manufacturer, should stabilize lead times over the rest of this year.

Smith also noted that Havertys closed its Plano, Texas, store in May, and will open a new store in Fort Worth, Texas, during the third quarter. The company will also relocated its Fayetteville, N.C., showroom during that time frame.
