OMAHA, Neb.-Doug Nielsen, CEO and co-founder of online furnishings retailer Hayneedle, has been named a finalist for the Ernst & Young 2013 Entrepreneur of the Year award for the Upper Midwest region, according to the Ernst & Young website.

A Hayneedle statement said Nielsen has overseen the site's growth to more than $350 million in current annual sales. The site currently offers a full complement of home furnishings, and the company also manages specialty online stores with specific selections in a number of home categories.

Prior to co-founding Hayneedle in 2002, Nielsen was co-founder and CEO of GiftPoint.com. When this site merged with GiftCertificates.com, Nielsen was named president and served on the combined company's board of directors.

Jeff Gordman, president and CEO of Gordmans, a member of the Hayneedle board and past winner of the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year award, cited Nielsen's "passion, transparency and honesty, in addition to his tremendous vision and business acumen ... His influence is seen in the employee culture, customer service and company's relationships with its many business partners."
