J.C. Penney Appoints Apple Exec Chief Talent Officer

PLANO, Texas-J.C. Penny has named Daniel Walker chief talent officer.
Walker, a former chief talent officer at Apple, Inc., starts his position tomorrow and reports to CEO Ron Johnson.
Walker was the chief talent officer at Apple from 2000 to 2004 and continued as a consultant until mid-2005, according to a statement from J.C. Penney. He led and built the global human resources team during a period which saw the launch of the iPod, iTunes, the applications division and the Apple retail stores. Walker was instrumental in recruiting Johnson to Apple to lead the retail effort, the statement said. Walker also worked in human resources for Gap, and is credited for helping to build an executive team that fueled the growth of the core Gap brand and helped launch new concepts including Gap Kids, Baby Gap, Gap International and a modernized Banana Republic.
