J.C. Penney Ups Sweney to Chief Merchandising Officer

PLANO, Texas-Liz Sweney has been promoted to chief merchandising officer for J.C. Penney, with the charge to lead the reinvention of the retailer's apparel and home portfolio.

All merchandise divisions--women's, men's, children's, footwear, jewelry, accessories, handbags and home--now report to Sweney. Previously, she had served as executive vice president and senior general merchandise manager of women's apparel, accessories, footwear, jewelry and juniors, as well as Sephora. She joined the company in 2000.

Brian Robinson, previously director of fashion and design partnerships at Target, has joined J.C. Penney as vice president of marketing and design partnerships. Katheryn Burchett, divisional vice president of merchandise strategy, has been promoted to senior vice president of merchandising and marketing integration. Anne Cashill, vice president of merchandising at Coach, has joined J.C. Penney as senior vice president of strategic brands.

Bill Gentner, senior vice president of planning and promotion, has been appointed senior vice president of strategic brands. Steve Seabolt, vice president of global brand partnerships at Electronic Arts, has joined J.C. Penney as senior vice president of strategic brand alliances.

 Eric Hunter  has been named J.C. Penney's senior vice president of marketing. Previously, he  was chief marketing officer and group president of Kellwood Co.'s Scotch & Soda and Lamb & Flag. Greg Clark, vice president of creative, has been promoted to senior vice president of creative. Mike Fisher, a former Apple executive, has been appointed senior vice president of visual presentation.
