Macy's Comps Rise 4.2 Percent in May

CINCINNATI-Strong sales at both stores and online fueled Macy's to a 4.2 percent increase in same-store sales in May.

According to an early company statement on the month's sales, total sales for May rose 4.1 percent to $2.015 billion. Online sales (combining macys.com and bloomingdales.com) jumped 42.3 percent in May.

Year to date, Macy's reported a same-store gain of 4.3 percent. Total sales reached $8.158 billion, up 4.3 percent and including a jump of 35.7 percent in total online sales.

Terry Lundgren, Macy's chairman, president and CEO, said, "We are seeing the ongoing benefit of the key strategies that have propelled our success over the past several years, including My Macy's localization, omnichannel integration and associate training to enhance customer engagement."
