Marshalls to Open First Canadian Stores in 2011

FRAMINGHAM, Mass.-The TJX Cos. said it plans to open the first Marshalls stores in Canada in spring 2011.

Marshalls will thus become TJX Canada's fourth off-price retail division, joining Winners, HomeSense and STYLESENSE. In a TJX statement, Carol Meyrowitz, president and chief executive officer, said the company plans to open six Marshalls north of the border next spring. Meyrowitz added that this move "is another example of our emphasis on international expansion," and said ultimately the Canadian market will support from 90 to 100 Marshalls stores.

The statement said the company was not ready to announce specific Marshalls locations at this time. Currently, the company operates 208 Winners, 79 HomeSense and three STYLESENSE stores in Canada.
