NRF: Halloween to be Less "Spooktacular" This Year

WASHINGTON-This year's Halloween selling season will produce fewer dollars at retail checkouts as fewer Americans plan to celebrate the holiday, according to survey results released by the National Retail Federation.
According to the study, which was conducted for NRF by Prosper Insights & Analytics, the 2013 holiday will result in average spending per person of $75.03 on decor, costumes and candy, down from $79.82 last year. In addition, 158 million Americans are planning to celebrate Halloween--which includes dressing in costume, decorating their homes, handing out candy and buying greeting cards--a decline from 170 million last year.
