Pantone Introduces Device to Measure and Match Color

CARLSTADT, N.J.--Pantone has launched Capsure, a handheld and portable device that allows designers, contractors, paint retailers and do-it-yourselfers to measure and match colors from a variety of surfaces.
Being released today, the trademarked product can be used in fashion; home furnishings; and interior, industrial and graphic design. It employs advanced three-dimensional image-capture technology that eliminates shadows and interference inherent in patterned and textured materials and surfaces. According to Giovanni Marra, Pantone's director of corporate marketing, the device is about the size of a television remote and measures color by taking 27 images of a piece from three different directions, and then uses its internal software to come up with a color match.
The Capsure contains 8,000 Pantone colors. It is being sold direct through pantone.com and through the company's traditional dealers among fashion and interior designers. The price is $649.
