TORONTO-Jeffrey Sherman, president and chief executive officer of Hudson's Bay Co., will retire on June 1.

Sherman joined Hudson's Bay in July 2008, and assumed responsibility over all of the company's retail banners in Canada, including The Bay, Zellers, Home Outfitters and Fields.

Later he was given responsibility over Lord & Taylor, Hudson's Bay U.S. retail holding. In a company statement, Richard Baker, chairman and CEO of parent Hudson's Bay Trading Co. and governor of its Hudson's Bay Co. unit, credited Sherman with playing a key role in re-establishing both Hudson's Bay and Lord & Taylor as "pre-eminent retailers in North America."

Before joining the company, Sherman was president and chief operating officer of the Polo Retail Group at Polo Ralph Lauren. Prior to that, he served as CEO of The Limited and president and chief operating officer of Bloomingdale's.
