Sinegal, Costco Co-founder, to Receive NRF Gold Medal

WASHINGTON-Jim Sinegal, Costco's co-founder a member of the retailer's board, will receive the Gold Medal Award during the National Retail Federation's Retail's Big Show.

Sinegal served as Costco's first president and CEO from the company's inception in 1983 until 2012. Under this leadership, Costco grew to encompass more than 645 warehouse clubs in 42 states, Puerto Rico and nine countries. Costco's annual sales are about $103 billion.

NRF will also bestow its International Retailer of the Year award to South Korea's Lotte Shopping. The trade group has also designated Nike as its Retail Innovator of the Year, and will honor Kathy Doyle Thomas, executive vice president and chief strategy officer, with its Silver Plaque.
