MOORESVILLE, N.C.-Lowe's has named Kevin Summers chief information officer, effective July 9.

When he assumes his new role, Summers will be in charge of all aspects of the home-improvement retailer's information technology, including the continuing development of a technology portfolio that can support the operations of the company's stores, distribution network, e-commerce platforms and future technology needs. He will report to Robert Niblock, chairman, president and CEO.

Summers will succeed Michael K. Brown, who retired earlier this month. Most recently, he served as senior vice president and global chief information officer for Whirlpool. His career also includes positions with Coca-Cola, Bell South Technology Services and General Electric.
