Target Finally Opening in Manhattan
July 2, 2010,
NEW YORK--It's taken a long time, but Target is finally about to open its first store in Manhattan.
The multi-story location opens its doors on July 25 at the East River Plaza, a big-box center in east Harlem.
In opening in Manhattan, it joins such large national big box chains as Kmart, Costco and Home Depot, which have had stores here for years. Only Walmart remains shut out of Manhattan among the giant general merchandise retailers.
The new Target store will use the retailer's expanded grocery concept, a format it has been adding to hundreds of stores across the country.
