Target, Kohl's, Vendors Donate to Hurricane Sandy Relief; Retailers Continue to Recover

NEW YORK-Target and Kohl's have donated monetary and product support to recovery efforts for Hurricane Sandy. Meanwhile, retailers with Northeast locations are continuing to open stores damaged by the storm.

Target has given $500,000 in both monetary and product support to assist in the relief efforts. Kohl's has donated $1 million in cash to relief efforts, which was provided to the American Red Cross, which is delivering emergency supplies and services to areas affected by the hurricane.

Among vendors, Electrolux said it would contribute $100,000 to the American Red Cross Disaster Fund, specifically to support Hurricane Sandy victims. The company will also match employee contributions up to another $100,000. Alok International, a textiles resource, is partnering with two charities, Feeding America and Living Dreams Foundation, to provide 100,000 meals to residents of New York, New Jersey and the surrounding areas.

A Target spokeswoman said that as of late yesterday, all of the stores in Hurricane Sandy's path had reopened. A J.C. Penney spokesman said as of late yesterday, 15 of its locations remained closed.
