Walmart to Host Second U.S. Manufacturing Summit

BENTONVILLE, Ark.-Walmart will hold a second summit on U.S. manufacturing on Aug. 14-15 in Denver.

In January 2013, the retailer said its goal is to purchase $50 billion more of U.S.-made products over the next decade. The retailer held its first U.S. manufacturing summit in August of last year in Orlando, Fla., hosting almost 1,500 government officials and supplier executives. Last month, Walmart held a "Made in the USA" event at its headquarters here, inviting executives with more than 500 manufacturers to talk to Walmart executives and pitch their U.S.-made products.

Attending this month's summit will be Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper and Mayor Kevin Johnson of Sacramento, Calif. On the Walmart side, Doug McMillon, president and CEO; Greg Foran, newly named president and CEO of Walmart U.S.; Bill Simon, former Walmart U.S. president and CEO; and Michelle Gloeckler, Walmart's executive vice president of consumables and U.S. manufacturing will be on hand.

The summit will take place at the Colorado Convention Center here. A Walmart statement said it will bring together public officials and suppliers from across 42 states.
