BENTONVILLE, Ark.--Tom Mars, executive vice president and chief administrative officer of Walmart, will leave his post on March 13.

A Walmart spokesman declined to comment on the reason for Mars' departure. He also did not comment on whether a successor has been named or if a search for a successor has begun.

Mars joined Walmart in 2002 as general counsel, responsible for the retailer's legal department. He was named to his current position in 2009.

Prior to joining Walmart, Mars served in the Rose Law Firm, as director of the Arkansas State Police and as an attorney in private practice.
