Safavieh Joins Sustainable Furnishings Council, Debuts Eco-Friendly Rugs

PORT WASHINGTON, N.Y.--Safavieh has become a member of the Sustainable Furnishings Council, and at the upcoming High Point Market it will debut more sustainable rug collections at its Historic Market Square showroom, suite 120.

"Sustainable Furnishings Council is delighted to welcome Safavieh, a leader in rugs and home furnishings and in innovation, which is really what makes any enterprise sustainable," said Susan Inglis, SFC executive director. "We are excited about the difference that Safavieh makes."

At High Point, Safavieh will expand its Natural Fibers collection with 12 additions using sisal, jute and seagrass. In new fashion colors and multicolored heathered yarns in chunky textures, Natural Fibers is power loomed in India and marketed by quality, in four series. In the company's Bohemian collection, five new hemp rugs in geometric transitional designs have been added. They are hand-knotted in India and are vegetable dyed. The Organic collection has three new cut-and-loop designs handknotted of jute in India. The Tangier collection has five new designs inspired by Beni Ourain wool carpets of Morocco. Tangier rugs are handknotted in India using the classic Moroccan weave in a blend of natural hemp and wool yarns.

Safavieh has built its stable of eco-friendly rug collections since the launch of its Thom Filicia line of outdoor rugs made from recycled soda bottles in 2009. "Consumer response to our eco-friendly rugs has been very positive, and we will continue to develop new and exciting weaves and designs using natural fibers to meet the growing demand for sustainable home furnishings," said Arash Yaraghi, president, Safavieh. "We admire the great strides SFC has made within our industry, and look forward to working with them to help promote sustainable products and practices across all levels of the supply chain."

During market, Safavieh will have buffet breakfast and lunch available in its showroom, as well as a daily afternoon happy hour.
