Ambiente 2013 Design Trends Outlined

FRANKFURT, Germany-Trend scouts have identified four overall trends that will be presented at the Ambiente trade fair here next February.

"There is a deep-seated desire to give expression to feelings, emotions and one's own personality. Hence, we want to present the new season's trends from the individual's point of view. At the same time, however, there is a desire for well-being, for peace and quiet, which is reflected by a yearning for nature," said Claudia Herke of the German design consultant firm bora.herke.palmisano.

The four trends are "blossom field," "classic ground," "eccentric domain" and "contrasting sphere." "Blossom field" shows the contrasts between "poetry and practicality" and features romantic floral patterns in pastel shades, playful shapes and delicate materials juxtaposed with understated modernity. This includes home textiles with graphic patterns and clear stripes, lattice structures and chrome. The color palette ranges from intense rose-red to delicate pastel shades with black and white providing a neutral counterpoint.

With "classic ground," an elegant urban lifestyle is conveyed through the use of traditional, high-quality designs that create a tidy, comfortable ambience. Rich orange and cool blue deliberately disrupt the neutrality of greys and browns.

The "eccentric domain" trend is about extravagance, decadence and glamour, utilizing decorative shapes, unusual patterns, extraordinary surface effects and extravagant accents in pink, jade and plum.

With "contrasting sphere," there is a contrast between dry, porous textures and brilliant gloss. Desert colors, natural materials and traditional hand-crafted work and innovative high-tech processes mark this trend.
