CHICAGO--Chicago mayor-elect Rahm Emanuel spoke at the International Housewares Show this morning, thanking it for committing to another five years at McCormick Place. Emanuel also expressed support for Walmart's entry to the city, saying that many urban dwellers do not have access to fresh fruit and vegetables.
Also from the show--in its last day today--tabletop company BIA Cordon Bleu will begin distributing Danesco products in the United States beginning March 31. Montreal-based Danesco offers a wide range of housewares products such as gadgets, bar tools and bakeware ... Krups launched an astounding 35 new coffeemakers, including machines for regular coffee and espresso, with a variety of finishes. It's part of the plan of Groupe SEB, Krups' parent, to bring new momentum to the brand in the U.S. market ... Electrolux has formed a partnership with 3M Filtrete on a line of vacuum filters and accessories. These accessories work with all vacuum brands, not just Electrolux and Eureka, and encompass 50 skus ... Electrolux also introduced Home Source, a new brand of steam mop pads that cover all top-selling models of steam mops. Also new is Home Source Vacuum Scents, scented crystals that can be put in the vacuum bag or dust cup.
