Royal Crown Derby Unveils Royal Baby Collection

NEW YORK-Yesterday's royal birth has sent ceramic makers rushing to their kilns to celebrate the occasion with numerous commemorative pieces.

Among those marking the arrival of Prince William and Kate Middleton's son is UK-based Royal Crown Derby, which has launched a luxury baby collection that includes a fine bone china rocking horse, photo frame and nursery box, among other pieces.

The limited-edition rocking horse is decorated in regal red and gold with a teddy bear and monogrammed blocks that honor William and Catherine. A photo frame and nursery box add to the collection and are embellished with depictions of traditional childhood toys inside a regal bunting border. Finished with 22-karat gold detailing, each piece's design features subtle royal motifs such as the acorn and crown. Once the baby boy's name is announced, that detail, along with his birth date, July 22, 2013, will be added to each piece. A commemorative insert will be included with the photo frame.

"From more traditional commemorative pieces such as our iconic loving cup, heart tray and paperweights, to fresh and contemporary pieces like the rocking horse, nursery box and photo frame that are aimed specifically towards a younger market, we have brought together a timelessly universal collection that celebrates the best of British craftsmanship," said Simon Willis, sales and marketing director. Willis said the collection, which was planned and previewed months in advance, has already received interest from around the world, particularly from Russia, Japan and the United States.

The Royal Baby collection will be manufactured in Royal Crown Derby's factory in Derby, England where the company has been producing commemorative pieces since 1761.
