Royal Crown Derby Unveils Royal Wedding Commemorative Collection
December 6, 2010,
NEW YORK-Royal Crown Derby will launch a commemorative range to celebrate the wedding of Prince William and Catherine Middleton. The collection will be available in early January 2011, in advance of the April wedding date.
Royal Crown Derby has spent years designing commemoratives in anticipation of a possible royal wedding, the company said. The resulting giftware range includes a loving cup, heart tray and octagonal plate, as well as a bell and Melbourne tray in the distinctive solid gold band Imari pattern. Bearing the William and Catherine monogram and an inscription, each piece is hand-finished and decorated with 22-karat gold. A Welsh Dragon forms the centerpiece of the range, in a nod to Prince William's future as Prince of Wales.
The sluggish economy and related credit crunch have been hard on the British ceramics and pottery industry, the company noted, and Royal Crown Derby's management has remained firm on the essential importance of manufacturing its English fine bone china in Derbyshire, England. The inevitable interest in commemorative pieces for the wedding, it added, will provide a welcome increase in sales.
