ATLANTA—AmericasMart presented its annual America’s Magnificent Carpet Awards during the recent Atlanta International Area Rug Market. The awards recognized excellence in 11 categories, including both handmade and machine-made ones.

In the handmade category, five awards were presented. Momeni placed first in the handhooked/handtufted category’s $0-16 per-square-foot group for its Millenia design, a contemporary abstract hi/low pattern made of viscose.

In the handknotted/flatwoven category, Anadol Rug Co. won in the $0-30 per-square-foot group for its Batika design; Capa Imports in the $30.01-50 per-square-foot group for its Nigde-Bor design; Harounian Rugs International in the $50-100 per-square-foot group for its Bristol OX-7 beige/pink design; and Creative Touch in the $100.01 and up per-square-foot group for its Sivas Silk design.

There were three awards given out in the machine-made construction. Oriental Weavers won in the $0-200 per-square-foot category for its Pasha 521X design; the polypropylene Pasha collection combines traditional patterns in cool neutral shades with pops of teal and paprika. In the $200.01-400 per-square-foot category, Karastan came on top for its Myanmar Aquamarine design, which is in its globally influenced Spice Market collection that draws heavily from classic Persian and Asian designs. “We searched high and low for antique rugs that intrigued and inspired us to use as a basis for the development of these rugs,” said Tracy Alan Pruitt, vice president of design, Karastan. “Each rug is then afforded a modern, unique allure from distinctive details like eroded edges, ombres and color shifting.”

Nourison placed first in the machine-made category’s more than $400 per-square-foot group for its Luminance design. “We have been fortunate to have been recognized for our product designs and innovation over the years. We are grateful that our products continue to be nominated in our competitive and highly creative industry,” said Alex Peykar, principal at Nourison. Luminance is made of silken Luxcelle fiber.

In addition, Surya won in the licensee category for its Spring Bloom design by Papilio. The design was created in partnership with Belgian lifestyle brand Papilio and is handknotted of felted wool with a low pile. “We are honored to have been selected for this prestigious award,” said Satya Tiwari, president. “Our product development team works each season to incorporate into our line new designs from talented designers and lifestyle brands that complement and broaden our offering through their unique design aesthetic. Papilio shares our focus in creating innovative, trend forward rugs for a broad range of lifestyles and price points, and this recognition is a testament to our winning collaboration.”

Amer Rugs won in the outdoor rug category for Piazza; the company first debuted its indoor/outdoor category last summer.

In addition, Aara won in the antique category for its Kermanshah design.
