OMAHA, Neb.-Jon Barker, president of Hayneedle, has been promoted to CEO of the home furnishings online retailer, according to a statement from the company.

As CEO, Barker is succeeding Doug Nielsen, Hayneedle's co-founder, who is continuing as chairman. Barker had been chief operating officer from 2008 to 2013, according to his biography on the executive-team page. The Hayneedle statement credited Barker with emphasizing the company's customer-focused culture and for the development of key initiatives, including a scalable platform that supports the company's sales across hundreds of product categories. Nielsen called Barker "an exceptional leader. I am truly excited to have him lead our company during our next phase of growth."

Barker said, "As we have since our founding, we remain committed to delivering the best online shopping experience in the industry. And to do that, we will continue to listen to our customers and respond with products and services that fulfill their vision of home."

Before joining Hayneedle, Barker was senior vice president of distribution and logistics for Cornerstone Brands.
