Amazonlogo3x2SEATTLE—Amazon.com has set plans for a new fulfillment center to be opened in Braselton, Ga., expanding its operations in that state.

The 600,000-square-foot facility will package and ship items, among which will be home décor, sporting equipment and gardening tools. When it opens (a date for which was not specified in an Amazon statement), it will employ about 500 people. Currently, Amazon has 1,500 employees in Georgia.

“This facility will create hundreds of new jobs with competitive pay and great benefits starting on Day One,” said Akash Chauhan, vice president of Amazon’s North America Operations. “From the local community to state leadership, we appreciate the tremendous support from elected officials for this project and we look forward to growing in the Peach State.”
