GoodWeave Certified Rug Program Launches at Select Macy's Stores

An exclusive line of GoodWeave certified rugs has launched at 10 Macy's stores in New York and New Jersey, offering consumers 20 styles of rugs in four collections. The GoodWeave label certifies that the rugs were not made with child labor.

The rugs are being imported directly from one of Kenneth L. Mink's manufacturers in India; KLM is GoodWeave's direct partner in this venture with Macy's. Retailing for between $250 and $1,995, the GoodWeave-certified collection includes: the Cascade group of handmade wool pile casual rugs in bold and vibrant solid colors; the Good Life collection of handmade wool pile whimsical rugs with drawings and sayings; the Miramar line of classic Persian designs; and the Safari collection, which is made of handmade wool pile scatter rugs in leopard and tiger shapes.

"By buying a hand-woven rug at Macy's with the GoodWeave label, shoppers are helping to support families and build sustainable communities in Nepal and India, nations where poverty is widespread," said Molly Langenstein, Macy's executive vice president for fashion and new business development. "GoodWeave certified rugs are woven by skilled adult artisans, permitting educational opportunities for children who otherwise might be required to work. A GoodWeave rug makes a beautiful statement in your home, and about making our world a better place."

In addition, Macy's Herald Square location is hosting a photo exhibit on the 8th floor entitled Faces of Freedom through July 22 to celebrate the new line as well as give consumers a closer look at GoodWeave's meaningful work and the craft of rug making.
