Janis Johnson, Wolfgang Wusthof to be Honored by Housewares Charity

ROSEMONT, Ill.-Janis Johnson, president and founder of Gourmet Catalog & Buying Group, and Wolfgang Wusthof, senior partner of Wusthof-Trident of America, Inc., will be honored by the Housewares Charity Foundation during its 17th Annual Housewares Charity Foundation Gala during the 2014 International Home + Housewares Show in Chicago.
Johnson will receive the Specialty Retailer Humanitarian Award and Wusthof will receive the Humanitarian of the Year Award during the Gala, which will be held Monday, March 17 at the event's new venue, Navy Pier, beginning with a reception at 6 p.m. Proceeds will benefit The Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF), the Housewares Charity Foundation's legacy charity. Since the first gala in 1998, the Foundation has raised more than $25 million and has contributed in excess of $13 million to BCRF.
Co-chairs for the 2014 event are Phil Brandl, president and CEO of the International Housewares Association, and Herb Landsman, executive vice president, merchandising, of Home Goods at TJX Companies. In a collaborative effort among industry manufacturers, retailers and allied industry partners, the non-profit HCF hosts this annual event to raise funds for critical causes, unite the housewares industry and honor its leaders. Honorees are selected for their humanitarian efforts and exceptional leadership.
Along with the honoree tributes, the evening includes auctions and entertainment. The Gala will begin with a cocktail reception featuring nine tasting stations hosted by Chicago-based James Beard Foundation chefs, including Paul Kahan of Blackbird/Avec/The Publican. Dinner will feature a three-course meal designed by "Honorary Chef Dinner Chair" Tony Mantuano of Spiaggia.
