NYICS is On a Renewed Mission
September 8, 2015,
NEW YORK-The New York International Carpet Show, slated for Sept. 19-21 in New York and now in its 11th year, has a renewed mission under new leadership.
Murtaza Ahmadi, a member of family-owned Amadi Carpets, now runs NYICS, after founder Dennis Dodds retired earlier this year.
“With this year’s show, we’re really setting out to forge connections between the handmade rug industry, high-end furniture retailers and the interior design world at large,” Ahmadi told HFN. “We’re also on a mission to educate the design community and public about the craft and incorporation of artisan rugs and textiles in interiors.”
The show will also offer an expanded educational component that will include a panel discussion on Monday, Sept. 21. Sponsored by Elle Decor, Karen Marx, its executive director of home furnishings, will moderate the panel that will include a yet-unannounced panel of rug experts and a prominent interior designer. The discussion will focus on the art of forming or transforming a space with a handwoven rug.
Ahmadi said the show was on pace to have about 35 exhibitors, including new exhibitors: cc-tapis, Slocum, Malene B, Yerra, Asian Minor, Warp & Weft, Soufiane Zarib and Apadana.
