Fanimation Initiates First National Ceiling Fan Day

Fanimation_NationalCeilingFanDayZIONSVILLE, Ind.-Fanimation looks to educate consumers about the benefits of ceiling fan usage--and saving energy and electricity by using them rather than air conditioners--with the first National Ceiling Fan Day, which is today.

The purpose of National Ceiling Fan Day is to educate the American public about the benefits of ceiling fan usage, as they use less energy and electricity than air conditioners, the company said. Studies published by Energy Information Association (EIA) show that 94 million of the 113.6 million residential homes in the United States use air conditioning equipment and 110.1 million use space heating equipment. Many ceiling fans consume as few as 30-50 watts during operation while air conditioning systems can use upwards of 3,500-5,000 watts, Fanimation said. Ceiling fans are also cheaper to operate, it added, as operating a fan can cost as low as three dollars a month while an AC unit can cost more than $130. If every American turned off their air conditioning for one day and used fans instead to cool their homes, the United States would save over three trillion kilowatt hours of energy consumption, the company said.

"Fanimation hopes to inspire the public to turn down their air conditioners and turn on their fans," Nathan Frampton, Fanimation's president. "They will notice immediate impacts on their electricity bills and they will also help the environment. We as a society have grown dependent on air conditioners, we use them in our cars and then continue relying on them at home. America's increased reliance on central air and the escalating cost of energy inspired Fanimation to initiate the first annual National Ceiling Fan Day on Sept. 18, 2013."
